Professor Zhanjiang Liu, Vice President of Syracuse University, USA, gave a lecture entitled “An Exploration of the Sex Determination Mechanism of the spotted forktail”

Prof. Zhanjiang Liu gave a systematic presentation on the gender determination mechanism of the spotted furca Spotted furcauda  has XY sex determination The team identified the sex chromosome of spotted furca by QTL, and further bred all-male individuals by female nuclear development, conducted Y chromosome sequencing and assembly, found that the XY chromosome did not differentiate significantly, and identified about 8.6Mb of sex determination.

In combination with three-dimensional genome and epigenetic research methods, Professor Zhanjiang Liu’s team found that the methylation level of male and female spotted forbident appeared significantly and heritable on the sex chromosomes It was also found that hydin gene was specifically expressed in males, which may be a potential sex-determining gene. Treatment with methylation inhibitors resulted in sexual reversal, and a series of male genes such as hydin were upregulated.
